The oppressed people who are broke are Taiwanese
Been shut down, kicked out, and silenced by the Japanese
They scraped and scrubbed each day just to make it
Smuggled cigarettes in just to feed the babies
But the government disguised Japanese owned all of the tobacco monopolies
They were losing money, losing power, and losing face
So they cracked down on the distribution of cigarettes to put the Taiwanese in their place
If you disobeyed you were put to bed
Nighty night, sweet dreams, hundreds dead.
